Nominate inspiring women for ANU building names
|
ANU Vice-Chancellor Genevieve Bell calls on the community to nominate inspiring women for the building renaming project. Speaking at the last week for International Women’s Day, she highlighted the need to honour more women, as only five out of 150 buildings across campus are currently named after female leaders.
Our community will be able to nominate outstanding women who have made exceptional contributions to the University. Nominations will open this month and close in May. Selected names will be celebrated, starting later this year and continuing into 2025.

They will explore the lack of gender representation and diversity in international affairs, reflect on the barriers to participation, and consider strategies to advance change. This conversation will be facilitated by Professor Susan Harris-Rimmer.

This week at ANU, we are celebrating . Held on 31 March, this is an international day that celebrates gender diverse experiences, identity, community and awareness.
At ANU, we are building on a culture of care, respect and belonging. The University recently introduced gender affirmation leave under the . To further support staff and increase awareness, People and Culture have developed a new . This document addresses frequently asked questions for affirming staff, their supervisors, and colleagues, provides links to resources and supporting organisations, and provides a template plan to help staff consider the steps that they would like to take in their affirmation journey.
This guide is based on staff experiences. People and Culture would like to recognise and thank all transgender and gender diverse staff who shared their stories and feedback in the process of developing this guide.
A new gender affirmation leave procedure is currently being developed.

ANU Anti-Racism Taskforce Recommendations Report
|
Last year led by Professor Sujatha Raman conducted consultations and undertook research in relation to the prevention of and response to racism and racial discrimination in university spaces. The Taskforce then produced its which sets out a three-phase implementation plan for ANU.
ANU has already implemented the immediate and short-term actions in Phase 1 and is now on a path to implement longer-term actions in phases 2 and 3 of the Report which include improving data collection and widening both the participation of students and employing more staff from diverse backgrounds. The implementation of next phases and recommendations will be considered at the IDEA Governance Committee, and an update on progress will be provided throughout 2024.

Professional Staff Pathways is being developed to create an environment where all professional staff thrive, feel empowered and supported to grow and develop at ANU. This program of work is crucial to deliver a staff experience that will ensure our campus and community is the best place to work and study in Australia.
As we continue to build our roadmap, we would value your input.
In addition to those held at the end of 2023, People and Culture are hosting two additional online sessions for staff to provide input and feedback on how to ensure the meets the needs of our community.

Election of professional staff member of ANU Council
|
A reminder that voting for the next professional staff member on the ANU Council is open and will close at 5pm (AEST) on Friday 12 April 2024.
The elected staff member will hold office from 26 May 2024 until 25 May 2026. You can view the list of nominees and a statement from each candidate and the election details.
To be eligible to vote in this ballot you must be a member of the professional staff and must have been a full-time, part-time or fixed term professional staff appointment in the University on payday 29 February 2024 and paid a salary by the University on that day.
