Abstract submissions are now open!
My experience with the ANU Student Research Conference over the last two years has been incredibly rewarding and invaluable for building my communications skills and experience with presenting.
The 2022 ANU Student Research Conference (SRC) is now calling for 250-word abstract submissions from students based on inquiry completed as coursework at ANU.
SRC is the University's annual research conference for undergraduate (including Honours) and Masters (coursework) students. SRC is a multidisciplinary conference which welcomes students from all academic disciplines to present their research within a three-day conference program. The conference also includes a range of workshops and other events to inspire and connect student attendees with research-related conversations, initiatives and possibilities at undergraduate level and beyond. SRC will return to an in-person format in 2022, from September 14-16 in the Marie Reay Teaching Building.
SRC Ambassador Sophia Ridolfo is currently preparing her abstract submission for the 2022 ANU Student Research Conference, following her successful submission and presentation at the 2020 SRC and ACUR@ANU 2021. As a final year Bachelor Science (Advanced) (Honours) student majoring in astrophysics, Sophia is motivated by the opportunity to continue building her research communication skills: "My experience with the ANU Student Research Conference over the last two years has been incredibly rewarding and invaluable for building my communications skills and experience with presenting.
I am submitting an abstract again this year as I have been working on another research project which I am excited to not only share with the ANU community, but also receive useful feedback on how to improve on my presentation and build on my experience."
Fellow SRC Ambassador Amy (Yimeng) Cheng is also currently preparing to submit an abstract to the 2022 ANU Student Research Conference, following her successful abstract submission to ACUR@ANU in 2021. For Amy, an Honours student in psychology, it is the opportunity to put into practice what she learnt at ACUR@ANU 2021 which motivates her to submit an abstract again this year: "It was a great encouragement to me that my abstract was accepted by ACUR@ANU last year. The experience I had at ACUR@ANU was rewarding - I gained useful feedback from the judges about how to make my presentation more applicable to a general audience, and I look forward to practicing these suggestions in this year's conference. My major reason for submitting an abstract again is that I am working on a really interesting research topic this year and am keen to share it with others. SRC is a great opportunity to hear what others think about my project.
In addition to the opportunity to build skills, Amy reflects on how her experience with SRC has strengthened her connection to the ANU community: "This opportunity means more than the presentation itself - it is also a great chance to network with others within your discipline and across disciplines, and learn about their studies. I am more involved in University life through joining SRC-related events and have met many great people. I also feel more motivated when doing research because I am keen to polish it to a point where it can be share with others at its best value."
All undergraduate (including Honours) and Masters by coursework students, including those within 12 months of graduation from ANU, are invited to submit up to three abstracts for inquiry completed as coursework at ANU. Submitted abstracts should be 250 words in length and written for a multidisciplinary university audience. All requirements for submission are included in the Abstract Submission Guidelines, and the deadline for 2022 abstract submissions is 11.59pm June 27 2022.
