Education Transformation Lead

ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science
As a communication academic, Scott Rickard developed an innovative approach to including Work Integrated Learning at every year level. Gradual exposure to clients from semester 2 in first year gave students more confidence with what to expect in their internships and future workplaces, that their assessments were authentic, and gave them exposure to the different possible specialisations within communication.
Within the program Scott also designed a graduated series of assessments that were based on peer contributions within every year level to enhance student experience of working within groups, ready for the workplace. This design was done in conjunction with a consideration of neurodivergent student points of difference.
She also co-developed and lead Study Abroad trips for communication students funded by the Australian Colombo Plan to both Malaysia and Singapore. The trips had a balanced industry and cultural focus giving students the opportunity to receive advice and suggestions from Malaysian students and industry experts on their Malaysian industry-based assessment and learn about cultural points of difference within industry and within the community.
Scott鈥檚 pedagogical approaches in her teaching practice led to her being awarded a Vice Chancellor Citation Award in 2016 for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning (Innovation).
Scott currently manages a team of education technologists in the School of Computing within CECC. She regularly writes blog posts for the Centre for Learning & Teaching with a focus on disability and education.
