Letter from the Editor - On Campus

15 Apr 2025

My name is Lou Adena and I am delighted to be writing as the 2025 Editor of your ANU On Campus (OC) weekly newsletter. I have held a number of roles at ANU and worked across a range of corporate and executive projects over the last decade, with professional and academic colleagues, alumni and donors, along with students. My time at ANU has ranged from leading comms for the ANU Recovery Plan in 2020/21, delivering major events ranging from the (REECON) to the 2022 Mahine Wahine Address with Dame Jacinda Ardern, and working as the Executive Communications Advisor for the former VC, Professor Brian Schmidt. It is my great pleasure to be back in the chair and working with the central Corporate Communications team this year.

For those of us who have worked at ANU for a couple of years, OC will be a regular feature in your Tuesday inbox and you might have noticed it’s been changing again this year. In Q1, we have been quietly working through the editorial content to give greater clarity, consistency and predictability. We’ve added some regular updates, including the weekly Renew ANU section, VC Messages, the monthly leave tracker to provide real-time updates and created new sections for staffing updates including appointments or your flu shot. We have also retired some content, trying to better respond to what our community wants to read, and the information you need in your inbox. And we have seen a positive trend towards higher open rates and clicks for both the staff and students editions compared to Q1, 2024. A big thanks to everyone who has been reading the copy.

To best serve our community, I want to hear from you – what you’d like to see more of, what you might like to see less of, and how we can ensure OC is your go-to update every week. In in the coming weeks, I will be hosting some feedback sessions and seeking specific feedback via an e-form. I also love to get out across campus, and would welcome coffee or an in-person chat. You can reach me at editor.oncampus@anu.edu.au.

With good wishes for April,
Lou
