Burton and Garran Hall alumni
Burton and Garran Hall values the contributions that all of our residents have made over the years. We understand that the desire to remain connected to the Burton and Garran family can be very strong. We want to give all B&G alumni the opportunity to remain connected and to give back to the college they once called home. We have a number of opportunities for alumni to remain involved in the community. We hope our alumni take advantage of the multiple ways they can continue their relationship with the college.
Below are some regular ways Burton and Garran engage with alumni. To find out more about any of these opportunities please email BurtonandGarranAlumni@anu.edu.au
Burton and Garran Alumni Mentoring Program
A current resident is matched to an alumnus based on certain criteria (degree, location or career interest) through an initial introductory email. From there, they build a mentor-mentee relationship. The alumni mentors can be an important source of career guidance, encouragement during the academic program, advice on important course and fieldwork and provide opportunities to expose mentees to the professional world. (Suggested topics of discussion will be provided to help spur conversation).
Time commitment: One year, commitment varies depending on agreement between mentor and mentee (e.g. weekly e-mails, monthly meetings in person or via Skype, etc.).
Alumni Career Fair
Alumni are invited back to participate in a Career Fair at the college. They have the opportunity to network with current residents and share their thoughts, advice, stories, etc. with the current B&G community. This low intensity event affords students the opportunity to connect with alumni on an individual level and receive guidance regarding what students can do now to prepare themselves for life after university. Staff and faculty from academic colleges and the division of Student Life are present to help students have a better idea of how to make themselves the most attractive candidate possible. Student organisations are also in attendance to share how they can be a support to students during their undergraduate and postgraduate years.
B&G Newsletter
Each year one to two newsletters are sent out via e-mail to all B&G alumni to update them on all the wonderful things that are happening at B&G. The newsletter covers everything from IB success to the most recent theatrical production to the newest chooks that call B&G home and much more.
General Involvement
All alumni are invited to contact the head of hall Jamiyl Mosley at BurtonandGarranAlumni@anu.edu.au if they have ideas as to how they would like to be involved with the college.
Alumni can also join the Burton and Garran Hall Alumni Facebook group to stay in the know about life at B&G by submitting a request to .
