In 2014, the OECD Council adopted a recommendation that governments develop and implement digital government strategies to bring together government and non-government actors and contribute to national development. There is no doubt the COVID-19 crisis has accelerated the need to implement this recommendation. So how is Big Tech working with our government to achieve a better digital future?

Speakers
Helen Zhang (BAsianStudies '10, LLB '10, GDLP '12) - Helen was a Fulbright Scholar and holds a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, where she specialised in global technology policy and geopolitics. Helen graduated from ANU with Law and Asian Studies degrees that equipped her for an early career in DFAT as a diplomat and Second Secretary (Political and Economic) at the Australian Embassy in Tel Aviv. Helen is now Associate Principal of Emerging Trends and Risks, Trust and Safety at Google.
Olivia Shen (MPublic Policy '18) - Olivia holds a Master of Public Policy from ANU and was a recipient of the Thawley Scholarship at the Lowy Institute. She was a 2019 Fulbright Professional Scholar and visiting scholar at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C. Olivia is currently the Director of Data Policy at the Department of Home Affairs. Her primary research interest is the ethics associated with the rapid global development and implementation of artificial intelligence.

Dan Trevanion (BArts '17, LLB '17, GDLP '18) - Dan is a lawyer at a global law firm where he advises multinational companies on major projects and large commercial arbitrations. Dan is an active member of the Australia-Indonesia community. He is a Board Director of the Australia Indonesia Youth Association and Company Secretary of the ASEAN-Australian Strategic Youth Partnership. Dan has been in close contact with ANU since graduating, helping form the ANU Alumni Sydney Network. Through the network, Dan has met many of the University's talented alumni, and even started a popular podcast for investors, Fresh Capital, with a fellow ANU alumnus.
